National Hospitality Day is a fundraising event across the UK in aid of five large charities in the space. Hospitality venues offer up different activities and challenges for both staff and the public to raise money and awareness of the lengths their staff go to to create an amazing place to work.

dESIGN cHALLENGES

The website was originally hosted by another agency. National Hospitality Day wanted to replicate the existing website but expand its interactivity, create a more consistent branding and develop the donation pages.

kEY eLEMENTS

  • Branding - creating a consistent visual style across the site, utilising 'pop' colours of pink and bright blue.
  • Header video - in order to create a sense of the event, I spliced together stock footage of both patrons and staff in hospitality venues. This was compressed and optimised to create a minimal impact on load speed whilst maintaining the high-impact visual.
  • Expanding the donation ability - this was a form on the previous site. Utilising a combination of Jotform (to capture donators' GiftAid options) and Stripe, we created an easy-to-use donation page.
  • Live feed of social media - Hosted on the page was a live feed of any social media that had hashtags to do with the day - notably #NHD2023. This live feed was then downloaded and kept in a CMS offline for future displays on the website.

rESULTS

Over £50,000 was raised in 2023 for the five biggest charities in the hospitality space: Hospitality Action, Licensed Trade Charity, The Drinks Trust, Springboard and Only a Pavement Away. Unfortunately the project did not run in 2024, and so the website is in a 'grayscale' mode, with many pages locked until further notice.
